Your local Charlottesville locksmith
The Lock Doctor is a family business. Terry has been a locksmith since 1989, and his son Kyle runs day-to-day calls across Charlottesville today. We don’t have a storefront. The van is the shop, so whether you’re downtown near the Downtown Mall, in Belmont, Fry’s Spring, Fifeville, Greenbrier or Locust Grove, out near the Barracks Road area, or across the river at Pantops, we come to you.
Common locksmith jobs in Charlottesville
- Car lockouts and lost car keys. Parking garages downtown, lots along US-29, and student cars near the University of Virginia (see our page for UVA students). See car lockouts and car key replacement.
- Rekeying rentals between leases. Charlottesville has a lot of rental housing, and landlords rekey between tenants every summer. See rekey service.
- Older homes, older hardware. Many houses in the city’s established neighborhoods have doors that have settled over the decades, so deadbolts stop lining up and latches stop catching. We repair, adjust, or install new deadbolts.
- Businesses and offices. Rekeying after staff changes, Grade 1 hardware and master key systems. See commercial service.
Getting around town
Charlottesville traffic can be slow around the 250 Bypass, Emmet Street and the Corner when UVA is in session, and on game days. When you call, tell us where you are and any parking or access details, and Kyle will give you a realistic time before we head out.
Albemarle County, too
Outside the city limits we also cover Earlysville, Ivy, Keswick, North Garden, Free Union and the rest of Albemarle County. Out west? See our Crozet page. South along Route 20? See Scottsville.
