Locked out of your car? Here’s what happens next
When you call (434) 297-3223, you’ll usually be talking to Kyle, who runs our calls. He’ll ask where you are, what you drive, and whether the keys are visible inside. Then we head your way with professional vehicle entry tools made for opening car doors without breaking glass or prying at the frame.
Once you’re in, we’ll ask you to show ID and something that ties you to the vehicle, like the registration in the glovebox. That check protects you as much as anyone.
Cars, trucks, vans and SUVs
We open everyday passenger cars, pickups, work trucks, minivans and SUVs from most manufacturers, domestic and import. Newer vehicles with deadlocks or alarm systems take a little more care, and that’s part of why it pays to call a licensed locksmith instead of reaching for a coat hanger or a slim jim, which can damage wiring, airbags and window seals inside the door.
Keys locked in the trunk
If the keys are in the trunk, we can usually get into the cabin and use the trunk release or fold-down seats. On vehicles where that isn’t possible, we’ll talk through the options before doing anything.
Keys lost, not locked in?
If the keys are actually gone rather than locked inside, opening the door only solves half the problem. We can make a new key on the spot. See car key replacement, including all-keys-lost situations and fob and push-to-start programming.
While you wait
- If a child or pet is locked inside a hot or cold car and in distress, call 911 first. Emergency responders can act faster than any locksmith.
- Wait in a well-lit spot away from traffic, especially on roads like US-29 or I-64.
- Keep your phone charged and on; we’ll call if we need directions.
We cover Charlottesville, Albemarle County and the surrounding counties, plus Waynesboro and Staunton. See the full service area. Locked out of your house or business instead? Visit our 24-hour lockout page.
